A Cup of Dignity: Tea & Coffee for VIT Cleaning Staff
We call on VIT Vellore to provide cleaning akkas and annas with tea or coffee at snacks time, as a basic allowance for the work they do every day.
VIT Vellore is one of India’s famous tech colleges, and many of us are proud of how clean the hostels, washrooms, and campus are. That cleanliness does not happen by itself. It is maintained by cleaning staff who give long hours of steady work to keep the college running well and looking its best.
Right now, it is not right that the people behind this care and cleanliness do not receive something as simple as tea or coffee as a basic allowance. No one who gives so much of their day to a workplace should have to secretly ask students for a cup of tea. If they are found out, they are scolded, and that only adds shame to an already unfair situation.
Those who work eight hours a day, no matter their rank or role, deserve simple facilities that help them do their work with dignity. Tea or coffee at snacks time is not a luxury. It is a small, fair, and human gesture of support.
We ask VIT Vellore to recognize the people who keep the campus so clean and to provide cleaning akkas and annas with tea or coffee as a proper allowance. This is a modest demand, but it says something important: that every worker matters, and that dignity should be part of the workplace for everyone.

"We cannot provide tea and all caterers are outsourced." This was the exact reply. So this leads us back to zero. Do we have any other options left other than secretly catering to the much deserved chai breaks to our cleaning Akkas ?
We crossed 50 signatures!Lets hit as many as possible

I request VITians to ask their respective mess supervisors to provide this allowance to the akkas and annas. Just raise a question.

I agree with the moral intention behind this petition
.
Basic humaniy
It's to ensure they don't lose their resolve. They deserve the same respect as normal workers who get this break.
Basic human decency and empathy should be given freely, not extracted through demands.
They do so much for us; we need to give back all the support we can.

This is a basic thing that is provided everywhere else, be it in office or anywhere. But simply because they are cleaning Akkas, they aren't even provided of a simple tea. They don't have to ask people for favors because what they are doing is not something small or insignificant work. We should respect everyone.
