In an era of advanced medical science, highly educated professionals, and modern veterinary technology, how could an elephant suffering from a leg injury end up losing his life?
What is the value of education, qualifications, and expertise if we cannot use them to save a helpless life?
Was every possible effort made to save Kavantissa? Was specialist treatment provided on time? Could his death have been prevented?
Kavantissa could not speak for himself, but we can
We must raise our voices for Kawanthissa and demand stronger protection for him and all other elephants in Sri Lanka. We cannot allow these magnificent giants to disappear because of human cruelty and negligence.
If we fail to act now, future generations may only see these beautiful creatures in videos and photographs, just as we see mammoths today.
Please let Kawanthissa’s death be a wake-up call. We demand justice, accountability, and stronger laws and enforcement to protect our elephants.

Death of these innocent giant creatures has broken my heart into pieces. The relevant authorities neglected their duties and had not a single bit of sense towards the lives of wild lives. We voted and assigned a goverment for a better future and these rascles with no humanity and sense towards nation, environment , animals and humans constantly play the fool with us. Yesterday, Sri Lanka’s elephant with the longest tusks was allegedly killed in a deliberate and cruel act. This incident must be thoroughly and impartially investigated. Those responsible for harming these innocent animals must be brought before the law and face the maximum punishment. There should be no mercy or leniency for those found guilty.
