Name: Joanne Kirkwood on Jul 8, 2008Comments: We the undersigned wish to protest in the strongest possible terms against the inclusion of Dr Kenneth Zucker in the Royal Society of Medicine's conference on "Gender Identity Disorder in Adolescents" . We believe that his methods are harmful to young people and that his theories on transgenderism are both outdated and rejected by most of the psychological community as they are based on personal bias and flawed methodology. We respectfully ask that you replace him with a contributor to the conference who does not give such offence to the transgendered community.Flag

Name: Mx Misc Tomboi on Jul 8, 2008Comments: There are plenty of UK-based professional people who have real life experience of supporting young trans people and transgender children who would make a positive impact upon this conference, in the interests of better healthcare and medicine for everyone. Maybe a contingent of young trans people will make their voices and experiences heard to the Royal Society of Medicine on the day! XXXFlag

Dr. Zuker has done much against the trans community and the community has a say on his level of involvement in said community.Flag

Name: Kevin Mounts on Jul 9, 2008Comments: Dr. Zucker claims to help gender-dysphoric children become comfortable in their assigned birth gender. In reality (as exposed in his own words on NPR recently) what he does is work with their parents to punish them for any behavior he sees as not appropriate for their assigned gender (i.e. boys liking the color pink or drawing pictures of rainbows)--in effect enforcing strict, outdated, anti-feminist and misogynistic gender stereotypes. The person I heard in that NPR piece, expressing such retrogressive views in his own voice, advocating such abusive treatment of non-consenting children, when he has admitted he has no scientific basis for his approach, has no credibility when it comes to gender identity in adolescents, and has no business being invited to such a prestigious conference. His presence would be a stain on your respected institution's reputation.Flag
