We, the undersigned citizens of Pembroke Pines residing in the Holly Lake Mobile Home Community wish to have the City of Pembroke Pines permit Hispanic Unity of Florida to provide us with their proposed youth center programs and any other community programs they have available to help us improve our community and educate its residents and children. We understand that the youth center will be located in the old firehouse at the entrance to our community on the NW side of Johnson Street, Pembroke Pines, Florida.
The following are some pertinent facts for the petitioner's review:
COST: Holly Lake Home Owner’s Association - ZERO Dollars Patience & Understanding, Love & Tolerance
COST: After School Participants-Sliding Scale = Free or a Percentage of Income Level. M-F after school, days off and Sat.
(Family of 4 earning total income of $31,371 per year would expect to pay $7.20 per week/16hrs. for the first child.)
TRAFFIC: City Engineer is checking into providing us with a turn lane to exit. Most of our children can walk to and from the Youth Center. Occasionally a parent will pick them up or drop them off, but normally drive through here as it is.
OVER 200 CHILDREN: Our Members have stated that something needs to be done to help the children that live in our community. Harmony Development Center (youth programs) wants “to educate and empower youth to make positive choices throughout their lives”. FCAT & homework tutoring with fun activities for elementary, middle and high school students by a trained staff on duty at all times and volunteers from our community. Since we have so many children of our own, there is no need for any other children from the local elementary schools to fulfill the minimum of 50 children participants.
RENOVATIONS: $80,000 – Members wanted the old firehouse “eyesore” cleaned up because it’s at the entrance to our community.
HISPANIC MEMBERS - “English for Speakers of Foreign Languages” classes. Hispanic Unity of Florida (parent company) wants “to provide residents of Broward County with the services, resources and contacts needed to lead productive lives”.
