If the minister was only making $25.000 per year would he still be there?Flag

Name: Anonymous on Dec 22, 2011Comments: Youth Care work is a remarkably important job. Youth Care Practitioners have the responsibility to provide care and treatment to some of the most vulnerable children and youth. They are responsible for lives and need to approach their jobs with this level of seriousness. Not only are Youth Care Practitioners underpaid, they are incredibly undervalued. Their salaries are simply a startling reflection of that. At the end of the day, the children and youth are the future. What type of investment do you think their worth?Flag

Name: Nancy Mazur on Dec 22, 2011Comments: I have been a youth care practitioner for the last 13 years. We are a under paid under and valued part of the child welfare system. It Is discouraging to know that I have seen many valued co workers and then when managing a home valued staff move on from the youth care field to go to youth justice etc. our youth need the valuable people at the fore front! In the group homes, doing restbit working with the youth that are in care for various reasons. We need those people back! To mentor our youth to help them heal teach them empathy, make them feel that they are cared for. Instead those dedicated people are now working with them in the justice field. As there are not enough adiquate staff to keep those youth off the streets, out of trouble and seeking out something that they can be apart of "family" by joining a gang. We need a pay increase to motivate young vibrant enthusiastic people to want to go into the youth care field. Our youth deserve above standard youth care practitioners to help raise our youth for a better tomorrow!Flag

Name: Kyla Birnie on Dec 22, 2011Comments: Youth Care Practitioners are NOT glorified baby-sitters. We are responsible for the LIVES of the most vulnerable youth in this province. We give of ourselves physically, emotionally and spiritually and often become burned out just attempting to provide a decent life for our kids. WE MUST BE COMPENSATED APPROPRIATELY FOR THE WORK WE DO!!!Flag
