Its Time for CE Workers to stand Up & Fight against propsed cuts. The 2009 McCarthy Report proposed the discontinuation of the One Parent Family Allowance & Disability Allowance for Community Employment Workers. These proposals are currently under consideration by the Government under the current budget process. SIPTU on behalf our members employed as CE Workers and on behalf of the Community Sector are opposed to these proposals. The proposals would have a devastating effect on CE workers who would no financial incentive to stay in CE to continue employment and training, as many CE workers could not afford to do so and would therefore leave CE. They will also lose their chance to continue training. Over 9000 CE workers are in receipt of these welfare allowances. If many of these CE workers left their schemes, it would put many Community Services around the county under threat of closure as they rely on CE workers to deliver vital community services such as Community Childcare, care for the elderly, meals on wheels, youth projects to name but a few. For example over 25% of Community Childcare staff are CE workers. We are seeking your support to opppose these cuts.
