Name: Gay Bernstone on Jul 15, 2009Comments: Tragically my lovely daughter, and my other childrens wonderful sister, committed suicide in the summer holidays 2008, following her first year at University. It was her third attempt. There was little or no help from the NHS, and she died without anybody really getting to grips with her illness, once she was over 16 years of age.Flag

It has taken a long journey to get him to recognise that he needed professional help - but we are staying positive right now.Flag

Name: Tony House on Jul 17, 2009Comments: The need for staff training, accessible services, assessment of educational and social needs as well as mental health problems is obvious.Target lead, short term project funding is not adequate. There is still a culture of not assessing educational needs, which often contribute to mental health problems because there are not resources or skills to meet needs when found.Flag

Name: Tina Hawley on Jul 17, 2009Comments: Ensuring the mental and emotional health of our Countrys children should be high on the agenda of this government. Disruptive behaviour in the classroom for instance should be viewed as a cry for help. Unfortunately all too frequently this cry for help is ignored and instead these children are excluded which exaserbates their anxieties and stress and ultimately damages their self-esteem. More teaching staff who are able to display high levels of emotional intelligence need to be employed in our schools to help our kids overcome their fears and troubles. Exclusion is NOT the answer - particularly for kids with Aspergers and ADHD. These kids just need to be understood by those around them.Flag

We all need to do whatever we can now to promote better awareness and more appropriate support and treatment options.Flag
