I have come up with stategies to eliminate driving under the influence in society. The startegies I have come up with are School-based instructional programs, Ignition interlocks and Sobriety checkpoints. With these strategies I aim to hopefully reduce the number of young adults dying in drink driving accidents and make the roads a safer place for young drivers. School-based instructional programs are effective at teaching teens not to ride with drunk drivers or drive as one. These programs teach teens the effects that driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol can have on your ability to drive and it shows the damage you can have not only on yourself but riders in another vehicle. Ignition interlocks installed in cars measure alcohol on the driver’s breath. Interlocks keep the car from starting if the driver has a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) above a certain level. They’re usually used for people convicted of drunk driving and are highly effective at preventing repeat offenses while installed but my aim would be to have these installed in all cars and not only cars that belong to offenders. Sobriety checkpoints allow police to briefly stop vehicles at specific, highly visible locations to see if the driver is impaired. Police may stop all or a certain portion of drivers. Breath tests may be given if police have a reason to suspect the driver is intoxicated. I would aim to have more sobriety test during high alcohol times to catch a higher amount of offenders before its to late.
