Name: Rong Fu on May 17, 2012Comments: Doris, John, Michael, and Shirley are some of the dearest, most dedicated, and caring people in the department. It is an absolute mistake to fire people who are passionate and remarkably skilled. Not to mention individuals who on day to day basis enriches the education of the students in the theatre department.Flag

Name: Gavin McDonald on May 17, 2012Comments: Eliminating the staff tech positions will decimate the educational experience for the students the TECHNICAL theatre program! I have the career I have today because of the time that staff members like these spent with me, and the combination of practical work with competent tech staff along with theory work with professors gives York one of the few successful practical/theory balances in Canadian theatre academia.Flag

Name: Ian Clail on May 17, 2012Comments: As a student in only two years all four of these staff have been an invaluable with their services and support. Theatre@York could not possibly keep the high standards of productions and education without their hard work. When I was on crews in first year Dorris and Bernie were my teachers. Shirley is an excellent teacher in fall prevention training, and John has done excellent work in maintaining lockers and booking rehearsal space, even if we ask him a bit later than required. All four of them regularly go beyond what their job requires. The theatre department needs them.Flag

Name: Tom Baranski on May 17, 2012Comments: I am a graduate of the York Theatre Production program and am sought after by industry professionals because of the structure of the program and what I was taught by some of the very people whose jobs are being terminated. It is impossible to teach the skills necessary to succeed in this industry without these positions in the program.Flag

Thinking of the theatre department without their creative energy and steadfast organization and workmanship is quite worrisome. Their positions were necessary.Flag

Name: Christian Mattia Orue on May 17, 2012Comments: I attended York University Theatre school for two years from 2009-2011 and cannot ignore the fact that all of the former employees listed above are a huge part of the faculty's great work dynamic and learning enviornment. To fire them and assume current faculty members can take on their duties sufficently is a very poor decision and should be give more consideration.Flag

They are the most amazing dedicated people, who have taught me more than all of the faculty put together. I am appalled that this has happened and I can't believe that this program would let such amazing people slip through their fingers.Flag

York University, please do not embarrass us by showing the rest of the educational systems how little you understand the Theatre Program at your own school. Closing these positions is like turning off the power, and telling students to go learn in the dark.Flag
