| 152 | Patrick LeBedis | I was neutral on this topic until I weighed the issues put forth by both Make Mahackeno Happen and YDowntown. In my analysis there is not a single compelling argument made by the former and YDowntown makes complete and total sense. I am surprised this issue has even proceeded as far as it has. 3 points - 1.) Has anyone quesioned the fact that one of the Y's Board Members is a 'land use consultant' aka Developer? 2.) The name 'Camp' Mahackeno does not suggest the specter of a massive commercial facility with associated Walmart like parking lot sitting in the woods - was this the intent when Camp Mahackeno was founded? 3.) A Mahackeno location creates massive traffic impact at the site, but has anyone factored in the additional traffic impact in the "City" of Westport by additional retail/office locations in the old YMCA facility? Westport is already far too crowded due to out-of-town retail seekers, who are able to drive home to their quiet 'country' towns like Weston, Wilton, etc. Thanks for your hard work. |

| 154 | Anonymous | I feel Barons South, a property that I believe 99% of Westport Residents have never set foot on - or will in the future be used or the Y. Past plans included an ice rink with the Y so it is silly to think there is not enough room. |

| 170 | Dr. Joseph Vecchiarino | When I was a preteen then teenager, I remember being drop off downtown to go to the Y, while the parents spent time shopping on Main St. or getting something to eat.
At that time (an I'm not that old) there were Movie houses across the street from the Y that we sometime walked over to after our time at the Y to catch a movie.( I saw Starr Wars there)
It was also a time that most of the stores downtown were owned by locals that your family knew.
I remember Kielns, Martan's Sport , Sport Mart, the Book store that was pink, the Ice Cream Parlor , Mitchells first store then Second store across from the church . The Library was on the corner of Main St and the Post Rd. then moved across the street. In all, once you were downtown you had , as they say, One Stop Shopping,
and if that wasn't good enough, it was Safe.
When the so called indoor mall was built down near were JCrew, is today, it was pushed as a great improvement to the town - it wasn't . The culture of the town liked the low scale structure of Main St. and gentle outside walk between stores. That building changed it's direction to fill it's space. We got lucky it didn't change downtown.
Today I still enjoy going downtown and while I miss the old stores and their owners , that I knew while growing up, we still have a wonderful downtown to shop, eat , or just walk around... but ,I wish we still had a movie house there.
If the Y moves from OUR downtown area, it will effectively end a special culture of our town where the downtown is the hub for the interaction of children, teens, their parents, singles, and seniors in which they all share a community bond and meeting place. A place that brings our town together , a place few towns ever have.
To lose the Y from a downtown home will end a special community culture and change forever Westport. |

| 176 | Kathrun P Zeoli | This relocation would increase traffic congestion. It is already bad in this area. |
| 177 | kip o'Brien | I am totally against the Y being at Mahakeno. |
| 178 | Anonymous | Carriage Hill and Barons strike me as better planning. The fact that the "Y" board purchased the Mahackeno land prematurely and without development approvals should not have any bearing on the issues at hand which are traffic, quality of life for local residents, pollution control, and . |
| 179 | Quinton Hoover | |
| 180 | Douglas Rankin | This move is short-sighted, and really only benefits a few people at the expense of the town and many of the taxpayers. We need some long term thinking. Why not now? |
| 181 | Michael J. Love | Some of the issues I have are:
(1) Potential river pollution
(2) Traffic congestion
(3) Land values
(4) Size of the facility
(5) Lack funding for such a facility. Funding shortfall could prevent completion of the facility
(6) Truly do not believe that this is the only available site. I would like to see all the rejections for the other sites they investigated. What about Weston? |

| 192 | W J Flora | I feel this new proposed Y at Mahackeno is totally unnecessary. This structure will destroy an area that's a habitat for a variety of wildlife and add a tremendously unfair burden to the people living in the neighborhood... and the traffic jams will be a nightmare for all! JUST SAY NO!! |

| 196 | Bert Aber | At what point is too much?
The Y being up there will change everything about the neighborhood and harm downtown. It is called sprawl. |
| 197 | Barbara Aber | This is an invasion of residential neighborhood and should not be allowed. The special permit says to protect neighborhoods, so protect it, not destroy it. |
