Laura Myer | As a native Westporter, the prospect of the Y destroying one of the last pristine tracts of land in our town is beyond appalling. Children, adults and wildlife need natural preserved properties. What will happen to the wildlife that lives at Mahackano? There will be a massive cutting of old growth trees to pave and build this new sort of industrial McMansion. If Walden Pond existed in Westport, the Y would want to pave the banks and put up a steel and concrete edifice. What exactly is behind this bullying, shortsighted mentality? I am sure something more than meets the eye. Keep the Y downtown or build it where children who do not have backyard pools and gym memberships can benefit. Surrounding towns have retained at least some of their character, Westport is rapidly losing theirs. The unenlightended proponents of the Mahackano relocation either do not understand or more likely do not care about the pure, raw benefit of unadulterated nature. Keep the Y downtown.

Gordon Grahame | If you want to talk the talk with any credibility, then you also have to walk the walk. If we REALLY want to save the enviornment, and our few remaining, local open spaces then another solution to putting the Y at Mahackeno must be found. To do any less would be patently hypocritical.
Anonymous | Please help create a central and accessible community in downtown Westport. Our families need a stronger sense of community by having a central downtown in which to congregate. I believe one of the missions of the "Y" is to support families and the communities they live in. I implore the "Y" to consider the children who enjoy the outdoors and outdoor sports, such as canoeing, rowing, hiking, don't spoil it for them. By removing so many trees, making our waterways even more vunerable to pollution and by installing a FAST septic system which will inenvitably fail, this project has the potential to produce a major environmental disaster. Please protect and allow this small piece of wilderness to survive so it can promote a cleaner environment, especially for our waterways, to be enjoyed by generations to come.

Joel Freedman | The Y spells environmental distaster for all of CT -- The Y will pollute the Saugatuck -- The Sound -- CT beaches -- destroying the environment - and real estate values. Beach closing will abound and we won't be able to use our beloved Compo! And that's just the awful truth. And traffic? The quality of life in Westport is being threatened - By LAW, the Town Officials of Westport must protect all of its citizens and our environment.
Anonymous | exit 41 on the Merrit Pky will be a disaster on the traffic pattern in the area.

Lou Ann Giunta | Keep the Y in Westport, but use one of the several downtown locations identified. Mahackeno is obviously the wrong location for many reasons.
Rachel Seltzer | While I currently live in San Francisco, I am a member of the Westport/Weston YMCA and do not see the benefit of paving over one of Westport's few remaining areas of open space. Westport's open space is a large part of what makes the town so great and what made it such a great place to grow up.
Beverly Butler | The Y is so conveniently located now that I can use it on my lunch break - that would not be the case at Mahackeno, and I hate the thought that one of the few remaining open spaces in Westport would be ruined by commercialization. Also, the streets in that area will not accomodate the increased traffic the Y demands.
