Sean Timmins | Keep the Y Downtown!!!!!!!
Beverly Butler | I work on Main Street next to the Y. I've watched Westport change for the worse over the past 20+ years. Stop the sprawl - keep the Y downtown and accessible where it belongs and appreciate the gift Camp Mahakeno is and should remain for generations to come.

Elizabeth Burns | The Y is out of control. I used to enjoy living in this town but with no regard to their neighbors I am rethinking living here with the enormous Y as a neighbor in what used to be a quiet neighborhood. The traffic alone is difficult now, with the Y it will be unbearable!
Dr Michele K Lamothe | I know the Y feels that they have explored all their options, but I strongly feel that the Y belongs downtown and that moving it out of downtown will negatively effect the downtown character. Although they have said that theatres and restaurants will move in, we all know that it will just be more retail stores. As an almost 10 year Y member, I don't feel that the Y spent much time seeking the opinions or support of it's members in the initial process, but now I think they will have that support if they decide to try and fight to stay downtown.
Karen & Gus Fernandez | The traffice is already horrible on Rt. 33 from 4:15 or so until after 6:00. When Rt. 33 gets backed up it can span from the Merritt to the Post road.

Andrew Parker | Thanks
gary | Lets keep Westport's residential areas residential. Let's keep whats green green!

Ian Warburg | We would never allow a private health club or commercial business to build a facility of any size in that location. The 501 C(3) status of the Y should afford it no special treatment. Any and all applications to build facilities on the Mahackeno site must be denied just as they would for any commercial applicant.
kip obrien | Y should NOT be at Mahackeno. Period!
TOM FEELEY |
Elaine J. McCarthy | I am a member of the Westport Y and a resident of Norwalk. Please keep the Y downtown where it can be part of my work routine. I suspect I will stop using the facility if I have to make a special trip out of my way to use it.
gary effman | Lets keep what's green green and what's residential residential. Most of us moved out here from the city for a reason.
Ginger Ewing | We all know what a mess New Canaan is now having with their ill planned YMCA - this is what awaits us. Is everyone at the Y just to afraid to stop this fast moving engine?
mark van summern | one of if not the most significant impact of locating the Y on this site is the overwhelming traffic that will be generated along wilton road, and impacting the on and off ramp on the merritt....traffic suring heavy commuter flow already backs up from the light in front of the red barn past our driveway to partrick road. not addressing or contibuting to a solution to this issue is criminal. there will certainly be a net gain of members from other comunities based on the new and expanded programs and the location right off the parkway....you cannot measure this impact by doing traffic studies of current traffic peaks. i am a member of the ymca and use its facilites almost daily....it would be great to walk to but not at the expense of the congestion and pollution it will cause...
Lorraine Kennedy | My youngest child takes classes as the Y. It's great at the current location since I can drop her off and pick up my older child at school while she's at a class. If it were at Mahackano, I would not be able to get to the school and back during the course of a class. The easy access downtown makes it family friendly.
Robert Kennedy | Traffic would be a major problem with having the Y at Mahackano. Whenever camp is open it is already a mess ... can't imagine how horrible it would be if it was like that every day!
| 22 | Toni | Please, enough of
overdevelopment in the rural areas of Norwalk and Westport! |
Mark Goldstein |
Sandy Rappaport |
Doris Levinson | This is a dangerous step toward destroying the concept of Westport as a town with a heart: Main Street. This is a one-way ticket to the end of Westport as we know it.
Martha Durham |
Kevin Moore |
Lois Moore |
Sheila & John Weiss | Just the traffic on rte. 33 should discourage the Y from this move! The Y needs to be central & down town
lori yanell | Keep the YMCA downtown where it belongs!!!!

Ada Katherine Martinez | If it's possible at all it should be left downtown. Too much of the heart of Westport has already disappeared.
Erin Halsey | If this is allowed to happen, the town will change for the worse...the kids love and need the camp...and the otters, swans, and BIG MAC!!! Stop being so selfish and think about the children...for once, think about always have wanting to make things bigger and better...you will blow it if you do...kids need nature not a bigger pool...they need to know what it is like to smell the air after it rains, and not smell a newly paved parking lot in the summer...progess is fine, but not this kind...how had and how typical of today's society...entitlement and no accountability...and the beat goes on...shame, shame, shame on you...let the children play...
Dorette Moreo | The Y should remain downtown for ALL the reasons you mention!
