To:
Simi Valley Mayor Paul Miller
The Simi Valley City Council
The Simi Valley City Manager
The Simi Valley Planning Commission
Simi Valley Police Department

We the undersigned ask Simi Valley Mayor Paul Miller, The Simi Valley City Council, City Manager, Planning Commission and Simi Valley Police Department to cooperate together in granting Yankee Doodles Sports Bar and Grill operating hours similar to our competitors. The City of Simi Valley’s earlier recommendation of closing at 11PM would prove detrimental to both the Yankee Doodles business model and community needs. This request is supported by the following reasons:

1. Yankee Doodles has an extensive track record of supporting the needs of law enforcement agencies, non-profit organizations and local communities throughout Southern California. Today we continue to receive awards and commendations in recognition of meritorious service from community leaders.

2. The City of Simi Valley’s website reports that “The City of Simi Valley understands the needs of business and desires to work with businesses to ensure their long term success.” Furthermore, the website states “Simi Valley also offers the advantage of lower County, business and utility taxes, as well as a City government that encourages businesses to prosper.” We feel the City of Simi Valley should honor its commitment of support to new businesses contributing to the city’s tax revenue base.

3. Yankee Doodles is always committed to providing a fun and safe environment. Safety and respect for both our patrons and local residential neighbors is always our top priority. This petition demonstrates that Simi Valley residents are desirous of our unique sports bar restaurant. Yankee Doodles only expects what most businesses expect, an equal opportunity to compete with other business in their area. Many dinning establishments and businesses serve liquor until 2 A.M. Why should Yankee Doodles be denied the same opportunity? Based on resident feedback, many of our Simi Valley residents must travel long distances to meet their dining and entertainment expectations. Why not encourage our residents to spend their entertainment dollars within Simi Valley thereby increasing employment opportunities and city tax revenues?

4. In our 20 years of operations we have never seen so much excitement and support for our opening. In the past 6 months we have received over 1,500 phone calls asking about employment and our grand opening. To date, over 700 people have walked into our establishment asking when we will be open for business. This cannot be overlooked. Our website has over 1,200 Simi Valley residents as friends, all residing within a 5-mile radius of zip code 93063. We believe that the Simi Valley Mayor and City Council, you who represent the residents of Simi Valley, will thoughtfully act upon the needs and desires of Simi Valley’s residents.

BY SIGNING THIS PETITION YOU HEREBY AFFIRM YOU ARE A RESIDENT OF SIMI VALLEY, CA. PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL WITH YOUR COMMENTS. THE SIGNATURES FROM THIS PETITON WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE SIMI VALLEY CITY COUNCIL MARCH 5TH, 2007.
