Yamoa™ is due to be banned outright from sale within the EU in 2011 when legislation on Traditional Herbal Medicines and Novel Foods come into full force. Yamoa™ is a natural, side-effect free, traditional, herbal product from Ghana which was introduced to the UK in the mid 1990's by Mr Jerry Yamoa, a postal worker in South London. Jerry's grandmother in Ghana had used the gum tree bark effectively for respiratory ailments on villagers, and Jerry introduced it to friends and colleagues at work, with remarkable results.
Since then, Yamoa's popularity has grown through word-of-mouth and internet exposure, and many thousands of people in the West have benefited significantly from both short and long term use. In so many cases, respiratory health has been restored and people have regained an ability to function and live normally again through short term or occasional use of Yamoa™, oftentimes without the need to continue taking it. In our opinion this is real healing, and not the kind of money-making symptom-masking that pharmaceutical companies are so well versed in. You just need to read some of the comments on this petition to realise how passionate people are about this product, and how important it has become to them.
In order to remain on the market we would need to have been marketing Yamoa™ in the EU for a minimum of 15 years and then have a license to sell it at the cost of £400,000.00 in order to undergo testing to pharmaceutical standards. As a very small company, even if we have been around long enough, this is out of our league. Getting investment to have Yamoa™ approved is near impossible - who wants to invest in a product that cannot be patented, as it's simply a naturally occuring plant which anyone can grow, harvest and market, unlike expensive patented medicines? Who has the right to patent tomatoes??
Removing Yamoa™ from the market will mean that 1000's of people who currently want to take responsibility for their health into their own hands, at no cost to the tax payer, and unsubsidised by the government, will be at the mercy of Big Pharma and their drugs that people are expected to remain on for the rest of their lives, at great cost to the tax payer, and great cost to their long term health through unwanted side effects.
