    Comments: I, too, greatly value freedom of speech, but I don't appreciate scrolling through message after message that involves only insults and name calling. I value the opinions of those who disagree with mine because I can only learn from them, but not when they are expressed in derogatory, insulting terms by people who aren't really interested in the issues at hand. For those who would champion the message boards as the purest form of free speech, I would have to stress that the 'contributions' by scores of individuals create such a hostile, unwelcoming atmosphere that MOST are reluctant to post, if post at all. The yahoo boards, as they stand now, are completely useless things, full of oceans of verbal diarrhea...eating up tons upon tons of bandwidth...enlightening no one and enraging all.

    Comments: The news message boards could be a very useful forum; the percentage of hateful, racist and deliberately inflammatory or otherwise off-topic posts detracts from its potential function as virtual meeting place for people from around the world. Instead it has become the equivalent of a virtual bathroom wall. Maybe Yahoo could post an online survey on the boards to see how people feel about having the terms of service enforced a little more actively.
