Dear signer: This is a petition asking Yahoo, INC to clean up their news message boards. As many users know, people abuse the boards by posting racial/hateful comments, links to porn and SPAM sites, and threatening content. Users are anonymous and many have multiple accounts from which they abuse the service. Yahoo states in their user agreement that IP addresses are logged, and abusive users will have their accounts taken away and IPs banned. Yahoo needs to live up to their user agreement. Reporting abusive users yields no results. The idea here is not to disrespect freedom of speech or promote censorship, but to show that the abuse of these boards has been tolerated for far too long. Yahoo owns the message boards privately and reserves the right to moderate, and delete posts/users that are deemed abusive. We are simply asking that they do a better job of this and take abusive reports more seriously. All signatures that are abusive or incomplete will be deleted. This petition will be sent to Yahoo through email, fax, and snail mail when deemed ready by the petition sponsor. To protect your privacy, your email address is not necessary for the petition. Thank you for your time!

Comments: Yahoo has announced that it is to close its messaging board system as from 31 March 2013. Perhaps this is what the trolls were attempting to achieve all along - and together with this closure comes our loss of facility to exercise our right to free speech. What is the First Amendment to the American Constitution? - or do we now have yet another example of it being torn to shreds? Apparently Yahoo would rather dump the entire system than employ anyone to moderate the boards and thus maintain a peaceful assembly of minds and opinions. So who owns Yahoo and whose hands are they playing into? It would certainly seem that the usual practice of "problem, reaction, solution" has been applied in respect of the boards too, given the number of trolls and other nefarious "useful idiots" who have virtually destroyed what was once a very useful resource, despite its often lively debate, especially on the Religion boards. Such a heavy handed approach as closure of the boards serves no-one except those who would have them closed down and our rights to expression of free speech stopped altogether...
