Xbox Live Modchip Petition

Microsoft appear to be preventing owners of modified Xboxes from using Xbox Live even after they have paid to join the service.

Whilst we all appreciate that Microsoft must protect itself from software piracy, there is a plethora of legitimate reasons for having a modified Xbox including: running “homebrew” software; using an Xbox bought in another country; playing DVDs that were bought on holiday etc.

Many owners of modified Xboxes were the pioneers of the console and are deeply devoted to it. A high proportion of those who applied to be beta-testers for Xbox Live had modified machines. They showed their loyalty to Microsoft by testing their servers for them and how were they repayed? Microsoft prevented them access to the product they helped to develop.

Unfortunately, it appears that the only way to get Microsoft to reconsider is to prove the numbers of owners against them. Therefore, we the undersigned owners of modified Xboxes who do not use pirated software, pledge not to purchase any further Microsoft products until we are permitted full access rights to Xbox Live.

This petition will be sent to Microsoft in due course.
