im honestly so happy to share that microsoft is finally adding the option to change your account region. thank you for sticking with this because we really proved that gamers need this flexibility when they move. keep an eye on your account settings to see the update roll out soon.
I found out to be one of many Microsoft\'s Xbox Live Gold subscribers who after moving country of residence was not able to continue using the service fully with the same and original Xbox Live account. Reasons for this is that Xbox Live doesn\'t let its users to change the country name in the contact details or payment details after they have already subscribed to the service. When subscription expires users are left with no option but to start a new account (as recommended by Xbox Live Support), losing their Gamertag, gamer points, games save files, previously purchased content as well as going through crazy process of moving their old friends list to their new account.
Many families and students move around the world, this becomes a issue for all of them who use Xbox Live, with most of them not being aware of the issue until it\'s too late. Microsoft makes no effort to inform their subscribers of this and most if not all find out the hard way.
This petition is a request to Microsoft\'s Xbox Live Team to find a solution to this, so that current users and Xbox Live subscribers can easier move their country of residence. There are many ways of doing this by checking what country IP is from, verifying address by mail or bank (like PayPal does), or/and I am sure clever people at Microsoft can come up with many other good solutions to this nonsense.
Moving abroad shouldnt mean losing everything you bought. Get it together xbox.

SERIOUSLY. Why is it 2016 and I still can't update my region? Spent way too much money on games to just lose them for moving.

Makes zero sense that they force you to lose your friends list and gamerscore just because you have a new zip code.

Lost a decade of gaming history because of this. Its absolute garbage that they dont let you move your account country.

Ridiculous. I moved for work and lost everything tied to my tag. Microsoft needs to fix this simple account setting.

Happened to me last year. Support told me to start over like my years of progress meant nothing. Total joke.
