Yesterday Sunday, July 29, 2012, marks the greatest injustice that ABS-CBN has done to very talented Filipinos who, by the very standards of their performance, should have been part of X Factor Philippines’ Top 12. Admittedly, there are many competitions whose outcomes audiences don’t agree with especially that their judging criteria vary, including popularity of the contestants in question via voting on people’s choice to specific format requirements, and of course, the network’s business interests. Needless to say, the bankability of a would-be star is a major consideration from a business standpoint. So as a smart viewer, while you don’t necessarily agree with the results, you understand these matters in the background so you let go of your personal preferences. However, yesterday’s episode of X Factor Philippines was the most questionable, appalling, and disturbing contest results ever announced on Philippine television. It does not take a genius to take the same position because many people actually saw the auditions and the actual performance of the individuals and groups over TV before the Top 12 were chosen. This is not to say that we are experts on music, star making, showbiz marketing, and talent management but as part of an intelligent TV audience, I was particularly dumbfounded why Kedebon was chosen over Michael Pangilinan.
