Comments: I totally agree! I, myself, got the top of my leg trapped in it one time at the park & it bruised really bad. But i'd have never for a second wanted the steamroller to go away because you could have such a good time on it. BRING IT BACK!

Comments: Removing it was Health and Safety gone mad. It may be a culture where a scraped knee results in parents suing for injury and emotional damage but someone's got to take a stand. If parents cant accept that children, while having fun, exploring their environment and learning to play safely may occassionally get a few scrapes and bruises then they shouldnt allow their children to play. I have never regretted the scrapes, bruises, or the few permanent scars that have narrated the story of my childhood. I havent regretted falling out of any tree as the fun I had far out wieghed the few accidents I experienced and which also helped me learn to judge the risks involved. Parents sue because they see the opportunity for a bit of easy cash - if they really were that concerned about their childrens safety they wouldnt allow them to play in such environments. I suggest they are sued in return for not assessing the potential risks, showing their children how to play safely and putting their own child at risk if they arent cabable of having a little fun and coping with a few bumps. Both my children spent many happy hours climbing all over the steam roller - their favourite game to climb to the top of the funnel and while they have had the occassional visit to casualty from falls and imbedded splinters, both have had a childhood with great memories and find it sad that children today arent given the opportunity for adventure. Parents and children alike should be allowed to decide if they wish to take on certain environments knowing the risks involved and prepared to face the consequences without gaining monetary gain when accidents happen. For those that do not, again thats fine but dont stop the rest of us, who havent taken on the blame game to suffer and lose what was a iconic part of the park.

Comments: I agree - it ridiculous that people can sue for this. I think the parents should have been watching more closely if they were that worried they should not have let the child on it. Put that steamroller back! It brought so much enjoyment to SO many kids. Including myself.

Comments: this is a much needed and missed part of the park and as a parent i know my kids would love playing on it. if someone falls off something doesnt mean it should be taken away! people get run over all the time doesnt mean cars should be taken off the road does it!

Comments: This beautiful old steamroller is part of Grantham's history and therefore our heritage. Another case of the nanny state attitude robbing us of items of character and interest. It was no more dangerous than a low brick wall, a raised paving slab or even putting your trousers on in a hurry! Bring it back now!
