The West Virginia Road Map for the Food Economy is a statewide "food charter" designed to help us all focus, measure, and celebrate our collective progress towards a stronger local food system. The Road Map offers a vision for West Virginia's local food economy and provides ways of measuring how statewide and local policies, programs, and community efforts are contributing to the strength of that food economy. It includes an action plan for the next five years. Through seven public forums across the state, more than 310 West Virginians from all walks of life contributed to writing the Road Map.

The action plan in the Road Map for the Food Economy centers around four goals for West Virginia:

1. Youth and new farmers participate in the agricultural economy.
2. Institutions and schools buy healthy local food.
3. The public consumes healthy local food at a household level.
4. Local farmers increase their income and are profitable.

The feedback I have received regarding our collective vision for a robust local food economy remains incredibly encouraging. I am currently coordinating with regional organizers to determine how we can best implement the action plan at the community level.

YES. kids need to know where their food comes from instead of just getting it from a truck. bring this to the schools immediately.

tired of seeing all our food shipped in from out of state. we got the land and we got the people who want to grow stuff. lets keep the money here in WV.
