We, the undersigned, ask that the Weilenmann School of
Discovery Board of Trustees decline the resignations of Mary Kimball and
Cynthia Phillips and respond to the resignations with a formal offer of
mediation.
We request that by December 5, 2012 the Board of Trustees
provide a written plan for mediation to retain Mary Kimball and Cynthia
Phillips in their administrative positions. To assure full transparency and build
confidence in the board, we request that you provide a summary of this
retention and mediation effort to the parents in a public document.
In accordance with section 4.6 of the WSD bylaws, we request
that the Board of Trustees immediately appoint a special committee to address
the mediation needs involved in retaining Mary Kimball and Cynthia Phillips in
their administrative positions. We request that the mediation committee be
comprised of a professional mediator, one parent representative (non-Board
member), and one WSD faculty member.
Section 4.2d of the WSD bylaws states “one of the parent
positions on the Board shall be filled by a vote of parents of students at the
Charter School.” To further enhance a working relationship between the Board of
Trustees and parent community, we request the appointment of one new Board
member who is elected by the parent community by December 21, 2012. Other than
this new appointment, we request that the Board refrain from appointing any new
Board members until a resolution is derived through the mediation process.
We respectfully remind the Board that future enrollment, faculty
retention, and fundraising success will depend upon how you respond to the
requests of the parents who have signed this petition.
We submit this petition with the full conviction that cooperation
among faculty, staff, the Board of Trustees, and parent community is essential
to the school’s stability and ongoing success.
