JosephLanouetteTXUSMetal dectecting is a safe and fun activity. As long as the holes are filled an the trash is taken its great for the environment. Trash such as bottle caps, pull tabs, cans, an metaled litter, is harmful to animals so in a way metal dectecting helps protect wild life!
MichaelTrotterTXUSAnother metal detecting enthusiast requests access to state parks.
KentDougallTXUS
williammasewiczFLUSI am moveing there this year and am a coin hunter.
AnonymousAnonymousTXUSMetal detecting is a good way to clean up the parks by means of removing trash while enjoying the hobby of metal detecting

AnonymousAnonymousTXUSI won't be given my finds to these scummy politicians, I'm going to keep what I find. No matter what it is! "Finders Keepers!!!!
DanielLingnerGAUSI think Texas should allow metal detecting in their parks. There isn't much preservable archeological significance to a park where people mplay eat and dogs crap. In the least I think there should at least be times and days this is permitted. Maybe charge a $10 a year permit fee, then you could appropriate the funds to park maintenance etc.
jackiesmithTXUSLegislation should be passed that would allow recreational metal dectecting in Texas State Parks. License's could be sold by the state, good for a year from the date of purchase, at a reasonable fee. The proceeds of which could go to the Parks and Wildlife. Hunters would be required to follow strict rules that would govern hole coverup, perhaps put an 18" depth regulation and restrict it to certain hours during daylight. This recreation would bring numerous retail dollars to various communites. Out of state hunters would pay a special out of state fee. At least with this legislation in place we would be allowd to hunt public lands which we cannot now.
JerryWatsonTXUSI think they should let us metel detect in state parks just like they let people fish and camp. We pay taxes just like all the other people do.
EloyGonzalesTXUScome on state parks we need you're ground, We need to metal deteced to fine the real word of texas, Never know it might be a big head line just waiting to be discovered in the land of state parks, pass the bill were running out of stores. let us bring texas state parks the talk of a great fine.
StephenWalkerTXUSMetal detecting is a family oriented activity and assist in the cleaning of public spaces. The hobby has little to no effect on the environment and 99.99% of all hobbits have no intention on disturbing truly protected archeological sites when so designated. What is concerning is that at sites that are simply public state parks the metal detector hobbits is band from conducting the hobby on property they have in part paid for.
ChristopherBrushTXUSWhy? Just let me know one good reason as to why we should not be allowed to detect in a state park. If this farce of justice is allowed to stand then I propose that a new law should be enacted. It should state that "any legislator who cannot provide at least the modicum of common sense given to a gopher should be publicly flogged." I know many of the estemed members of our legislative branch may not metal detect, but I do and please do not "tread on me!!" Get it!

DougSchrammTXUSFirst off, I am a tax-payer, police officer, husband, father, and Native Texan, so this is coming from someone who knows nothing else but Texas and I can honestly tell you that folks that are detectorists are some of the most respectful people I have ever had the luxury to be around. As mentioned already, we do more good for others than the beer-swilling, cigarette butt-throwing, diaper-leaving, people that I've personally witnessed trashing up the State parks. Detectorists don't need supervison when detecting, in fact, the fees we will happily pay can be used to supervise the 98% that are trashing the parks. When will the Government stop taking away our freedom/rights? After all, the song says, "This land is OUR land.." not, "This land is Government owned land, This land is not your land." Pay taxes and loose your freedom on your land!!

JohnSmithTXI love parks, local and state. Local parks let you metal detect but Texas State parks don't. Doesn't make any sense. Local Parks are in large communities and are far more likely to have historical finds than most state parks. However, for those like, San Jacinto Monument and Park, likely there are many relics to be found. Keeping them in the ground to waste away to nothing makes no kind of sense on any level. Face it, metal detecting hobbyist are no different than hunters of game or fishermen. Our equipment and our catch is different. I certainly wouldn't mind buying a metal detecting hunter's license. Perhaps we will one day be able to search and find relics to be saved for the future. Thanks John E. Smith Fort Worth
ChristopherMooreTXUSI have been metal detecting since the age of five and I am now 36. Education for detectorist on how to do it properly. To get a permit to metal detect should come with a education course so damage will not result to the property. We should all have the right to metal detect public and state grounds without hassle if it is done correctly. Education, Education Education in order to get the permit and I would gladly pay the fee for the class in order to detect legally and without harrasment from officials.
jasonreedTXUSi just hade a good find at a local park in bryan,tx dont keep us out of state parks its all for fun and for "FINDS AND STORYS" THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

AnonymousAnonymousTXUSI think Texas should open more public lands like State parks to metal detecting. most other states have public land in which to do this. but most of Texas is privately owned so that just leaves the parks.
