88.1 FM WPEB BROADCAST ANTENNA CITY TOWER PLACEMENT PETITION

IN LIEU OF THE WPEB 88.1 FM Community Radio Broadcasters seeking the approval of District Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr, in the placement of the station’s antenna on the City of Philadelphia antenna tower in the 4th District: The placement of the tower would allow the station to expand its listener base, its reach and its ability to get news, music and information to the sections of the city that are currently out of WPEB’s listening areas of West and Southwest Philadelphia.  The station is currently operating on 1 watt, which severely limits the range and audience.  Benefits - WPEB offers quality, non-commercial, progressive, diverse programming and music that cannot be found on any other station in the city. WPEB currently exists to keep the immediate community engaged on local, national and international events.  The tower placement would allow for that engagement to happen on a larger scale.  Accordingly, I support WPEB being placed on the City tower to provide a support vehicle for WPEB as our only community radio station in Philadelphia training neighborhood People to enter the commercial broadcast industry and to ensure that the community continues to get information it needs to prosper that it is getting from no other source.
