Comments: Hate and Mistrust are exactly what the Nazis stood for-- the sheer hypocrisy of the governments actions must be dealt with-- nothing can change what was done to this man, however, something must be done to recognize his contribution and to formally apologize for this barbaric act.

Comments: The government should absolutely apologize and recognize this man posthumously. Without his efforts, the war may not have ended the way it did, and we could not have had the life we have now. Hatred and prejudice was clearly a global failing - not just of the Nazis. Is this how we want to be remembered - as a world that thanked this incredibly gifted man by precipitating his suicide Simply because he was gay If the government does not apologize, then their actions can be regarded as despicable as those of the Nazis.

Comments: Turing deserves tremendous credit for his work that saved thousands of British and American lives. Instead, he was chemically castrated. This is a wrong that should be made right (to the extent it can be). A knighthood would certainly be appropriate and a good first step.

Comments: My father served in England during the war. Unless the impact of the Enigma intelligence has been vastly overstated, it seems likely that Mr. Turing greatly increased the likelihood that my father, as well as tens of thousands of other fathers, came home safely to their families. Mr. Turing deserves both public apology and national honor, however belated. Heroes walk many paths. They remain heroes nonetheless.

Comments: Alan Turing was among the giants of the 20th Century, and the Turing Award, the Nobel Prize of Computer Science, is a tribute to his profound impact. Few have contributed more. He is the Einstein to those in the field. A mere apology is nowhere sufficient.
