Name: Susan Berlowitz on Aug 26, 2003State: NYCountry: USComments: I marched and attended rallies, prior to the invasion of Iraq, hoping that the invasion could be avoided. Much of today's chaos was predicted by the peace movement, months before the war began. We all had serious questions, and we were shrugged aside, by our representatives, as if our educated opinions and knowledge didn't matter. I am disturbed at the lack of support within Iraq, by the occupation forces, for the women and children of the country. Where is the security I continue to read horrifying stories of women and children being abducted and raped. The United States, with Paul Bremer in charge, needs to come up with a serious plan, and then they need to institute safety measures, immediately, so that these atrocities come to an abrupt halt. Otherwise, the individuals, including Paul Bremer, and Donald Rumsfeld, should be held accountable for the human rights violations. Most of the people I know, here in NYC, didn't ever believe that the Iraqi people would dance in the streets and throw flowers at the feet of the American soldiers, as described by the Pentagon. So many innocent Iraqi civilians have died. I am deeply saddened by what has occurred in Iraq, perpetrated by the current president of the United States and his administration, and, I grieve, daily, the continued violence in your country.Flag

Name: Jan Boudart on Aug 27, 2003State: ILCountry: USComments: I am suffering from lack of surprise that the U.S. is letting this happen to women in Iraq. Our country does not protect women at home, let alone care what happens to foreign women. That this situation was not forseen and dealt with by good planning and good will is maddening -- but so predictable.Flag

Name: Susan Caldwell on Aug 28, 2003State:Country: NLComments: I would like to see Paul Bremer contact the wormen's organizations in Iraq and work with them to stop these violent actions. I would not put my trust exclusively in the Occupying Forces military or security apparatus but rather think that it is important to work with and reinforce the women's organizations that are part of the Iraq civil society.Flag
