It's also important to realize that the NBA has a lot more followers...nevertheless, I do think that the women should be making more than that.Flag

Name: David Trejo on Jul 30, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: Let me just begin by saying that it is high time that someone has raised this issue. Given the recent "jurisprudence" problems plaguing the NBA, the WNBA has become quite a breath of fresh air to me. Unfortunately, the press continues to focus its attention on the spoiled, "holier than thou" NBA "superstars" as opposed to the hard working and charismatic "real" players in the WNBA. It would be great to read more stories about how involved Lisa Leslie is with children in the greater Los Angeles area or how Sue Bird has encouraged thousands of young girls to pursue their athletic dreams, whether it be basketball or their chosen sport. The salaries for WNBA players should not be limited, as they currently are, and salaries should not be determined by on-court performance alone. These players routinely are involved in marketing the game and simply creating a positive image for women of all walks of like, not just athletes. This petition is a great start. Let's do whatever we can to celebrate not only women athletes, but let's begin to give all women their due with the respect they so richly deserve!Flag

Name: Dunbar Henri on Aug 2, 2003State: WACountry: USComments: Let's start giving female athletes the respect they deserve by paying them well, for the sacrafices they've made to reach their current skill level, the best players in the world. What kind of message are we sending to our young daughters whom may want to venture down the same path, it's nice but you can't make a decent livingFlag

I personally love basketball and my dream is to be in the wnba but for someone to live on that sort of salary is completely unfair and wrong.Flag

But certainly these they women can be paid more. i'm sure the owners of these teams and TV stations saling commerical time are making a pretty penny. So the players should be making a pretty penny as well.Flag

Name: Wilbur Adams on Aug 21, 2003State: VACountry: USComments: The WNBA is a refreshing spin off from the NBA. The fundamentals these young ladies bring to the court are noteworthy, and when you consider the role model status they provide to our youngsters is more than admirable. It is a travesty to know these talented players are making peanuts, especially knowing their value on teams overseas. The NBA should be ashamed.Flag
