After completing a community needs assessment of the older adults of Winona, we have determined that The Winona Friendship Senior Center is in need of more accessible parking. The spaces around the perimeter of the Friendship Center often do not allot enough time for those at the Friendship Center to complete activities or classes they are there for. Because much of the programming at the Friendship Center lasts up to 4 hours, we are petitioning to increase the time limit in those spaces to 4 hours. We are also petitioning to make those spaces "Friendship Center Only" parking, and provide members of the Friendship Center a parking pass to place in their window while they are at the Friendship Center. It is difficult for older adults in Winona and surrounding areas to truly enjoy the benefits of the Friendship Center when they are concerned about getting a parking ticket during their class, or when they are not able to find a parking spot within walking distance of the Friendship Center. This is a necessary change that will greatly benefit many older adults.
