With the recent news of the Shadow of the Colossus film adaptation losing it's director (again), and with the knowledge that this movie has been in production hell for quite a while, I feel it is necessary to give Sony a hand in selecting it's next drop out.

Nicholas Winding-Refn has a very unique visual style, a very heavy user of symbolic imagery and cinematography to tell his stories and does not rely heavily on dialogue to do any of this. All though his visual flair is distinct and different from Shadow of the Colossus, he is an auteur and I would be confident in his ability to not only honour the source material, but to give it new life in it's new medium.

I wholly believe that films are different from video games, and should be treated as such. Concepts and ideas that seem commonplace in video games come off as silly, unbelievable, campy or plain dumb in a movie, and someone who can prune these things or envision them anew for the silver screen is necessary. I think Winding-Refnis that man.

His filmography is not extensive, but has shown great skill. Valhalla Rising, Bronson, Drive and Only God Forgivesare highly symbolic films, taught films with meanings and daring use of a camera. They are dialogue light, violent and dramatic. They are for film what Colossuswas to video games, and more importantly, Winding-Refn is a contemporary, living pop-artist. His work is directly on the pulse of film goers today, and if he were to make Colossus, I am certain it would be legendary and a milestone for game-to-film adaptation, hopefully opening the floodgates for talented directors and forward thinking producers to take the now taboo category to new heights.

Not to overstep my bounds, but I would hope he has full creative control. And that Ryan Gosling does not figure in. He's a great actor but he's simply not a good choice for Wander.

Please, if you agree, sign this petition and share it with your friends. I think we can achieve great things, and maybe even save one of the most beloved games of all time from ruination at the hands of greedy production studios with no respect for the people they claim to cater to.
