Wildwood Two-Lane Bike Safety Petition

72 Signatures Goal: 100

This Petition is requesting the City of Wildwood, Missouri to stop promoting bicycling (or cycling events) on any two-lane Wildwood roads. We petition that no City funds be budgeted for, or City employees' time used for, promotion of bicycling or cycling events on two-lane Wildwood roads. It is time to recognize that citizens forced to drive the winding, two-lane roads of Wildwood are vulnerable to harm (many times a day) from other vehicles passing bicyclists on blind curves. We believe the City is inappropriately promoting an increase of bike traffic on two-lane roads, increasing the risk for serious harm to Wildwood residents. IF YOU FEEL STRONGLY THAT WILDWOOD SHOULD STOP, PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION. WILDWOOD SAFETY ASSOCIATION

Sorry but you won't get my signature on this one...
I believe that it is the duty for drivers to operate vehicles safely on the roads of Wildwood. Passing on blind curves is a poor decision by drivers and this petition will have no impact on that. I personally have experienced the need to drive slowly behind a cyclist and wait for the best time to pass. They are aware that I am there and most times signal to me when the road is clear. I can also easily see past them to be sure I am passing safely. I think being polite and just a bit patient is all that is required. Also, this does NOT happen daily...
I have also had to drive very slowly behind horse trailers with NO opportunity to pass due to their size and their impact on visibility of the road ahead. None of us would even think of banning horses or the promotion of them would we?
The cycling events that are promoted by Wildwood highlight the beauty of our community and the trail systems that are being built, all of which raise the value of our properties. Cycling is a healthy and growing activity that also brings revenue to our city when those cyclists converge on our restaurants and shops.
In closing, lets slow down, enjoy the view and be grateful that we are so blessed to live in such a beautiful area! Share the road, share the beauty and share the joy!!
