   Comments: The new name will be Nintendo Puu. The P stands for the person that thought this name up and the double U (UU) represents the ass that this name was extruded from. What is the name of the branding company that thought this up Someone please tell me so that my company won't suffer the same fate that Nintendo will over this one. From now till release people won't be able to mention Revolution without making reference to that galactically stupid name.

    Comments: I'm sorry, I just had to write in and tell you that I think that the Nintendo Wii is an absolutely atrocious name for the system which was previously known as the Revolution to use in the English-Speaking world. I understand the concept of the is looking like people and the controllers, and I understand the concept of "We" and bringing people together, but "Wii" does not instantly connote those things to a consumer. Wii, to me at least, looked as though it would be pronounced "Why" I had this initial reading because of Intel's ViiV platform (pronounced Vive), and the conditioning that consumers have had with the iPod to say "i". Clearly, this is not a good idea, as one does not want to be asking their consumers why they should buy a product, or why said product even exists. Once I learned that it was pronounced "We", I instantly thought of "Wee" because of the double vowels in "Wii", rather than "We". Wee, as I'm sure you know, means small, can refer to urine, and also sounds like something a young child might yell. It doesn't have any good connotations in my mind, and this is coming from someone who loves the concept of the nee-Revolution and has been waiting with bated breath for more information. Lastly, I would just like to say that i understand your desire for a name which is pronounced the same in many different regions, but I feel as though the name Wii fails in English-speaking countries. I like the reccomendation I have heard of calling it the Go, which would be able to be said in just as many regions, without the strong negative connotations of the word Wii in English. ANYTHING else.... why not name it Nintendo V (as in 5th generation Nintendo console) or even Nintendo Wi would be an easier pill to swallow. You need this console to kick the asses of Microsoft and Sony, please don't screw it up by using such a god-awful name. Thanks.

    Comments: Poor Nintendo. After years of being hounded for failing to listen to marketing people, it appears they have finally given up the resistance just when they needed it. Wii is possibly the worst product name I have ever heard, in ten years of naming and marketing products. It is the kind of linguistic train-wreck you get when you design by committee. It reminds me of a fictional car brand in a Ben Elton novel, which the Germans wanted to sound teutonic and hard, and the French wanted to sound light and whizzy, and ended up being called the 'Krappee'. It costs an awful lot of research yen to come up with a name that wrong. And guys, if you need a paragraph to explain to the public why your name is good, it's not. I'm a Nintendo obsessive so I will still buy it. I fear I may be the only one though. *sigh*
