Remember: Freedom is not free--and those who have paid the price of service will avenge themselves of this travesty with the ballot!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 13, 2007Comments: Please don't change the GI Bill eligibility now that baby boomer Vets/Viet Nam era Vets have a chance to return to school to update their employablity skills. This is a huge opportunity for older Veterans and to take it away now after promising it to them in an election year is outrageous.Flag

Name: Thomas P. Skaug on Jul 13, 2007Comments: To Governor Jim Doyle and members of the Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly, what are you even thinking The veterans do not and should not have the promises made to them giving them equal access to the WI GI Bill educational benefits. WI Military veterans should not have a delimiting date, why are you elected representatives even thinking of reneging on promises made Promises made to our military veterans prior to the past elections should be kept, period!Flag

Name: Megan Schuetz on Jul 13, 2007Comments: Taking any promised benefit from a veteran is ridiculous. I don't think the amount of time you have been out of the service has anything to do with receiving equal benefits. A veteran is a veteran - no matter when they served.Flag

Name: Ted Mynyk on Jul 13, 2007Comments: I attended the WI GI Bill signing ceremony and felt that it was a program that would benefit Wisconsin veterans and dependants greatly and pay huge dividends for our great state in future years. Now, to see that threatened is a huge step in the wrong direction. The benefit cost is not great and the rewards are great.....do not dismantle it!Flag

Name: Clifton Sorenson on Jul 13, 2007Comments: The reversal of this important veterans benefit is a slap in the face of any veteran who served our state and nation before 1997. This benefit was crucial in the re-training and re-tooling of many of our veterans who were underemployed or unemployed. The statement our legislators are making is, "just because the veterans served our country honorably more than 10 years ago means that they are no longer important to our nation and state". Is that the message our legislators wish to make to our veterans I think Wisconsin can treat its veterans better!Flag

Name: James Thalacker on Jul 13, 2007Comments: Making veterans ineligible due to dates served is an absolutely unfair decision. I understand the budget is tight and the cost more than expected but as I was taught as a child, "Don't make promisises you can't keep!". Our confidence in our legislators continues to erode as a result.Flag

Veterans sign up for a tour of duty, we extend their tours...what good is our word to our soldiers Give Veterans a little bit back of what they gave to us. Give them an education without strings!!!Flag
