I honestly cannot believe I am typing this but they finally backed off and the proposal to cut those veteran benefits is dead in the water. My hands are actually shaking a bit because I really thought they would dig their heels in forever but look at us now. Keep …

Tell Our Wisconsin Legislators and Governor Doyle that every Veteran who enlisted from Wisconsin Deserves Equal Access to WI GI BILL Education Benefits! Currently there is a movement in the State Senate and Assembly to renege on the promises made to veterans leading up to the 2006 elections. Actions taken recently by the State Senate and Assembly would exclude all Veterans who have been out of the service for more than 10 years. The undersigned citizens wish to communicate clearly to their State elected officials that they DO NOT approve of excluding qualified veterans based on their date of discharge. (No delimiting date is acceptable!)

July 16, 2007

I have been reading through the comments all morning and honestly the stories people are sharing about their service and what this program meant for their families are just gutting me. It is wild to think about how these legislators just want to brush aside those promises like they are nothing but paperwork while I am over here getting emails from folks who really relied on that education support to change their lives.

I honestly never thought this would gain this much steam but here we are and it makes me want to keep typing until my fingers cramp because these veterans deserve better than broken promises. It feels like the tide is finally turning against these ridiculous new rules and I am just so overwhelmed by how many of you stepped up to say enough is enough.

Just another way to cut corners on the backs of people who actually did something for this state. Embarrassing.

This is ridiculous. These men and women already gave years of their lives to this country. The least the state can do is keep its word.

Keep the GI bill as is. Vets shouldn't have to battle the state government for what they earned.

They promised us these benefits when we signed up. Changing the rules now is just plain wrong.
