The West Marlborough Township has issued an ordinance to prohibit parking within 2/10ths of a mile in all directions from the intersection of North Chatham Rd and Springdell Rd. Further, The Township has announced the establishment of enforcement provisions and penalties for violations of this ordinance. The full ordinance can be read at www.thewhiptavern.com. The property at 1383 North Chatham Road has been a public meeting place since the site became a store/tavern in the mid-1900’s. For each business situated here, the property has historically required additional parking. Through the hard work and determination of our staff, and by positive word of mouth of our neighbors, The Whip Tavern has become a premier destination dining experience while also providing the convenience of a local restaurant for our community. In our four years in business, we have lawfully used every square inch of available parking to accommodate our customers, most traveling from within 10 miles of the property. In addition, at the request of the Township in 2008, we expanded our parking to an adjoining lot at our own expense of $100K. One unfortunate consequence of our growth has been the need for our customers, during our peak operating hours, to opt to park in the Penn DOT right of way. While our preference would never be to impact the community negatively, we are aware of the situation and have been making every effort within our abilities to find a solution to our parking deficit. We are proud that through hard work, we were able to create a comfortable, quality dining and social experience where there was none. Without additional parking, or a refrain from penalizing our customers, The Whip will be significantly limited in our ability to serve the community. In addition, due to staffing, West Marlborough has limited enforcement availability. Our Township will be better served with a more efficient utilization of this important resource. We feel there are solutions, which have not yet been investigated or considered, which will allow for sufficient parking as well as the safe passage for residents and visitors on these two state-owned roads. We are asking that they research additional parking solutions to accommodate the patrons, employees and neighbors of The Whip Tavern.
