We the citizens are petitioning for a handicap parking law to be passed for wheelchair “drivers” only. A vehicle backing up is dangerous to a wheelchair bound adult; any ability to locate a handicap parking space is a feat; however the danger of injury or loss of life is real for a manual wheelchair bound person. Experiencing a blind spot, which is created by a manual wheelchair, is a new; the back window of a vehicle sits higher than four feet for most new vehicles. There are no laws for “wheelchair drivers only.” A first slot parking space handicap sign stating, “wheelchair drivers only” parking space is a growing need, since the United States is experiencing many wheelchair bound disabled veterans.
