Curriculum change proposed for WFED
Dear President Rodney Erickson, Dean Monk, Associate Dean
Edmonson, Dean Foley and Senior Associate Dean Vasilatos-Younken:
We, the
graduate students of Workforce Education and Development, in the College of
Education are writing to you to appeal for your help.
We understand that there
is a curriculum change proposed for our graduate program. It has been
circulating for some time and will be reviewed in the College of Education
curriculum committee on 20 April 2012. If approved there, it will continue on for
subsequent approvals. There are actually two issues.
- The assignment of permanent course numbers to a series of Workforce Education graduate courses related to Organization Development and Change;
- the other is a proposed online program in Organization Development and Change, offered as a Master’s of Professional Studies, through World Campus.
World Campus conducted a market research regarding the viability for the proposed program. The results identified 45,000 potential students in the United States. This does not include the international market. Currently the WFED program attracts a strong international population, specifically to study Human Resource Development/ Organization Development. The proposed program is highly transferable to an international audience and therefore, can be a program that will be relevant to the World Campus’ international expansion plan.
This year,
the WFED program is ranked as #1 in the US News and World Report rankings. In
addition, our professors have received awards for their contribution to the
field. Our goal is to continue to grow as a program and maintain a strong
reputation for being a leader in the field of HRD/OD. We, the undersigned
students, would like to support efforts for curriculum change proposed for the
WFED program. But we are particularly keen to ensure that the graduate courses
be assigned permanent course numbers because failure to do so will adversely
affect completion of our doctoral studies. We enrolled in Workforce Education
and Development and are particularly interested in Organization Development and
Change as a field of interest for our future careers in the academic community,
professional world, or in consulting.
We trust that you are fair-minded people
and will take our strong desires into consideration.
Thank you.
Cordially,
