Petition

Citizens of Union County living inside as well as outside the village of Wesley Chapel are AGAINST the Wesley Chapel Council's decision to move forward with extra territorial jurisdiction (ETJ).

This abuse of a NC State Statute did not follow due process, and will result in control of private citizens' property without designated plans for the areas affected, projected services to be provided, or voting rights for the affected landowners.

This hurried political action in 2006, ultimately rescinded by the Union County Commissioners in December 2006, is a reactive "land grab" , affecting farmers and families who have owned and worked this land for more than 150 years.

We the undersigned, Disagree with the unfair infringement of property rights of North Carolina Citizens.

We acknowledge that this unfair political action will most likely result in multiple lawsuits and increased cost and taxes to the citizens of the Village of Wesley Chapel.

Additionally:

We, the undersigned request the appropriate government authority, Local, State, or Federal to effect the following actions.

1) Rescind the ETJ granting of permission to Wesley Chapel declared, and

2) Adopt rules or regulations consistent with the Noland vs. Marvin NC Supreme Court case to declare the exercise of ETJ by Wesley Chapel illegal, and

3) Provide the local citizens affected the right, as prescribed under the North Carolina and United States Constitution to use and plan for their land.
