Comments: Wendel Werner is one of the reasons UT is so amazing! If we lose him, we're losing greatness.

Comments: Wendel is a phenominal teacher who is dedicated to his subject. He actual engages his students and is the only professor who can make an 8am class what you live for.

Comments: I cannot express how much students get from his History of Rock and Roll class and how much they enjoy it. More than once I have overheard some random student on a soapbox ranting about "The Big Orange Screw" and the anger and resentment they have toward the instituion -- Only to be immeadiately followed by "how only one class i've taken here i really learned something and enjoyed: The History of Rock and Roll with Wendel Werner". If Wendel is willing to continue to teach at the University of Tennessee, the institution should consider itself blessed and jump at the chance. He doesn't have to be here, and other schools surely do not take him for granted like UT seems to be doing. Wendel wants to teach and the University is screwing itself by creating barriers for him.

Comments: I never actually took the class as a student, but I was one of Wendel's graders for 6 semesters. He and I did not part of a good note, but I know that he is a good teacher. I remember things that I learned in his class, and I'd be hard pressed to remember anything else that I learned in my six years at UT.

Comments: I was deeply sadened when I heard that the University of Tennsees "no longer needed" Wendel Werner. I have heard from friends and family that he is very passionate about teaching and finds unique and innovative ways to teach his students.

Comments: I took this class my Sophmore year. Best class I ever took. Not because I listened to music all day, but because Wendel cared about what he was teaching and cared for his students. UT should be ashamed of what they have done.

Comments: "radical" teachers are the best teachers, they make me, the student, actually want to learn and not so much of a chore, all teachers should be "radical"... i can still tell you anything you wanna know about government and junior english...why because those teachers in high school were incredibly "radical"...keep wendel

Comments: I had the privilege of performing with Wendel Werner at a choral concert where he and I both played accompaniments. I, in my 8 years of being a musician, have never met anyone with such a love for what he does. I didn't get to take his class, but anyone who isn't blind can see how much of an asset he is to the University.

Comments: Wendel's teaching methods have been the most effective of any professor I have had in college. I still have specific knowledge of topics he covered in classes from Fall '05 and Spring '06 (Hist. of Rock and Intro. to World Music); I cannot make that claim for any other class in my seven semesters of college. I routinely cite his lectures in research papers and presentations. My learning, in the fall of 2006, of his imminent dismissal from the College of Music was the final factor in my decision to leave the Musicology program. Wendel Werner has a positive impact on students, encouraging both an academic and personal interest in the subjects he teaches. Higher Education has an obligation to the students, and unfortunately, personal feelings have superseded that obligation. Wendel was dedicated to his position and, most importantly, to his students, and the University of Tennessee either does not recognize that commitment or simply disregards it.
