brian jarvis | lets get it built
Steve of Southend | It is surprising that all the people petitioning against Hooters restaurant are not actively trying to close the Ann Summers sex shop in Southend High Street or The Private Sex Shop in Alexandra Street. Neither are they working or petitioning to end street prostitution in the other well known parts of Southend. They are jumping on the band wagon in their objections, which are frequently incorrect, such as the reference "we do not want a lap dancing club in...". It is a restaurant not a lap dancing club! For your information there used to be a lap dancing club in Southchurch Avenue, it is not there now & did not bring about the end of civilisation when it was! I have a female friend who has visited a Hooters in the states & given me her first hand views, which were all positive. I have looked at the Hooters company myself & I have no objections to them opening a branch locally. I am sure that many of the people against this restaurants application will be buying The Sun today or a magazine featuring scantily clad women, or dropping off their barely dressed teenage daughters outside a Suthend disco, or purchasing a local paper that accepts advertisements for call girls & massage parlours, or watching a TV show where strangers are pushed together by the program makers to have sex in the public arena. I support the right of anyone to oppose a planing application, but I wish people would base their views on facts not hearsay. I would also expect them to be consistant in their opinions & morals..........
Ed | This is about freedom of choice. If you want to go, then you should be able to go and have a fun night out without being told not to go by some jealous ugly do-gooder. I hope it goes ahead.

James | If you don't like the idea don't go in. It can only help with local economy.
Anonymous | Having visited Hooters in both the States and Canada I am surprised that there can be any serious objections to a resturant opening in Southend. I question how many of the people who oppose the resturant have actually been to a Hooters previously. In my experience the resturants have a fun atmosphere, serve decent food and many families dine there. It is in no way seedy or disrespectful to women and the uniform no more revealing than the staff in other bars and in our casino's wear. People should spend there time addressing real issues not preventing things that will make our town a better place, especially when I doubt they have actually ever been to a Hooters before so are not qualified to pass comment.
