Today morning after IT blocked the registration page of a scientific conference (see attached) and after spending more than 20 fruitless minutes with the helping desk waiting for speaking with a real person, I decided to make a desperate move and ask for the help from our research community to send a message to the higher level of administration. (I tried on regular channels in the past). Maybe it is only me, so only sign the attached petition if you are frustrated about our IT support in our research world at the Northwell. I experienced incompetence when we needed to have a port to be opened (meaning it was never solved), cumbersome solutions when we needed to share information (other research centers have sftp so easily available), blocked applications when we want to share our non-PHI articles through google drive (no, that 1 GB Syncplicity will not do, we tend to write articles, share documents with other researchers who do not use it, and just to compare I have 100 GB storage on my google). Recently without any notification, they just cut off Dropbox and Google Drive, even my two years old gives warning when she poops. (I well aware that was not supported by them, but still out of courtesy they should have given a warning that policy will be enforced). I understand that things are tailored to the need of the clinical world, but in research, you can't have the same criteria. Yes, I can guarantee 100 % security, we just have to plug out our computers from the socket. Done. But come on, that what Northwell Research wants?

I write this email after years of frustration (=anger) with IT service. If you want to join me, please sign the attached petition and forward it to other members of the clinical, translational and basic research team. We advocate here to have entirely different research network (separate from the clinical), with completely different safety settings, with more support for using the internet freely. We do not want the freedom to do whatever we want to do, but we want the freedom to be able to do whatever we should do. And currently, this is impossible.
