As an artist and tutor in West Sussex I have noticed how art shops in town centres have slowly shut up shop, the super shop next to Worthing train station has now gone and even Sussex Stationers have only a few shops left, mainly in Brighton and Chichester. The only place to shop for quality art materials is online, great if you know what you want but if you are starting out in art it is very tricky. I was, along with my class, enthusiastic when Clarkes stationers opened its doors in Rustington, I had visited their other branch of Clarkes in Brighton. There they have a good range of art supplies for beginners to professional artists such as acrylic pens, large selection of papers and sketchbooks and a good range of paints and brushes. At the moment the new Clarkes in Rustington only has a small selection of art materials. I plan to meet the Managing Director in a week or two to persuade him to carry more art supplies in his shop. He has said that it will depend on how much demand he receives. Sign up and help this area to have art materials!
