I have to be honest. I'm concerned and confused about the situation with Squirrel, even after reading the note on the bulletin board in the volunteer trailer...still confused. I never heard until just recently that there was an arrangement to send him back to Chipley after 6 months at Alaqua. I do remember that a family fostered or adopted him for a short time while he was at Alaqua. My understanding with that adoption was that he was a good bit too strong for the girls to walk, but other than that, he had been fine. I've never been to Chipley, so I don't know his situation there, but I know that while he was at Alaqua, he got out for some good exercise, as well as lots of affection from those around him. Alaqua folks are wonderful about making sure that happens with all the animals, and I'm a huge, huge fan and supporter, but for Squirrel, I don't know that he is getting that at the Chipley facility. Right after he went to Chipley, I was told that he was going to be fostered by a lady there who had 40 acres on which he could run, which would help him with the frustration of being confined. It sounded like a good situation for him, so I took it to be so. The information has changed over time, though, and I'm afraid he'll just be forgotten. We know that time has a way of letting that happen. I know he's big and strong and doesn't need to be around cats, and I know we want all the animals to be safe and secure. I'm honestly worried about Squirrel, though. I feel as though something's been lost in translation. Can anyone help?
