On Tuesday, September 16th the life-less body of 17 year old Serena Vermeersch was found in Surrey B.C. Ex-convict Raymond Lee Caissie has now been charged with her murder. After recently completing a 22 year sentence Caissie was released even though everyone connected to the case knew that he was going to offend. The documents released by the Parole Board of Canada stated that he was considered likely to kill or seriously harm someone. But there was no provision to keep him incarcerated and save the life of innocent Serena Vermeersch.

We support Bill C-26, the “Tougher Penalties for Child PredatorsAct” amending the provisions of theCriminal Codethat deal with sexual offences committed against children and young persons by increasing the mandatory minimum penalties and maximum penalties for such offences.

We also demand amendments to the Dangerous Offender assessment to allow it’s application with less impediment and judicial discretion in the case of perpetrators who continue to pose a risk to society at the time of their release.
