Name: Kevin Ford on Jan 28, 2013Comments: Support that this decision be overturned and dialogue between the two associations be the mecahnism to resolve current issues with the Rep B program. We are small communitees - let's act this way - unilaterally breaking a relationship is not the way to resolve these challenges.Flag

Name: Alex Colvin on Jan 28, 2013Comments: Having been involved in Rep B hockey with the River Rats since its inception, as a head coach ( 3 years,) assistant coach ( 4 years) and member of the River Rats executive ( 2 years), I find this whole situation is very upsetting. The most disturbing aspect however, is the way it was done. We have worked together for over 10 years with many issues cropping up that both communities worked hard to address. The answer was always found through open transparent discussion and by working through the issues together. Our organizations and communites were stronger as a result of the process. The answer was never to take our ball and go home.. For the MDHA executive to have a secret agenda hidden from even their own River Rats Committee members passed in secret with no for warning to anyone ( so no chance to have a different opinion from anyone) is a slap in the face to all of us on both sides of the Castor River. I have made so many life long friendships with my friends in Metcalfe and for someone to just undermine that with such a classless move is just so disrespectful. My friends will always be my friends regardless of what a rogue MDHA executive does. They can't take that away from me and hope that somehow they won't be successful in taking that away from all of you and future River Rats going forward..Flag

Name: Camille McKay on Jan 28, 2013Comments: The MDHA decision to split from RMHA was done without any prior consulation or discussion with any member of the River Rat program. Where was our RRC in this decision? What caused this decision? Why were we, the River Rat community, not consulted or aware that this was an option that was being considered? We would like some answers and we as long time commited parents, players, volunteers, community members, would like some answers as we strongly oppose this decision.Flag

Name: Nora Gallagher on Jan 28, 2013Comments: We would not even have enough players formour River Rats team if it weren't for the Russell area boys. Without them we would not be a team. This seperation of ways seems to have been done very secretively. As an executive you represent the interests of the parents and children. In order to do so, you need to consult with them when making significant decisions that geatly affect everyone. It seems to us, the parents, that this decision was persoanl and not in the interest of the children.Flag

Name: Chris Olney on Jan 28, 2013Comments: The actions of the MDHA are deporable. Non-for-profit boards/orgranizations are not permitted to hold closed door sessions unless they deal personnel issues. It is unfortunate the MDHA board looks like a kid throwing a temper tantrum "I want, I want" without articulating what it is they want from all the stakeholders. The creation of the River Rat committee/teams has been based on the hockey leaders, coaches, players and parents of both of our communities. It has established a harmony between our communities which we celebrate and boast. Why does MDHA think they don't need to involve stakeholders? Their actions reeks of political regimes most democratic individuals detest!Flag

Name: Drew Leyten on Jan 28, 2013Comments: I Don't understand why such extreme measures need to take place with the solution seeming so simple. Why doesn't Russell supply the RR ice time bases on the ratio of Russell players on RR. (i.e. if 20 % of players on a RR team are from Russell 20% of the ice time provided to that team comes from Russell and you have no transfers of funds). Just simply create a fair and equal formula. If that’s too complicated, create a transfer system based on number of players not teams. Nevertheless a change this drastic doesn’t not seem rational and the MDHA have failed to convince me that they have exhausted all measures possible before coming to this decision.Flag

Name: Karen Leyten on Jan 28, 2013Comments: Although I agree the current system is broke and adjustments needs to be made. I feel we are fighting over pennies and forgetting about the dollars. I firmly believe that slight inequity of fund distribution and inconvenient ice times is a much easier problem to solve then have 3-4 uncompetitive RiverRat teams. I urge the MDHA to include Russell as part of RiverRats and also urge Russell families to do what’s best for the kids and remain affiliated with the RiverRats no matter the outcome.Flag

Name: Scott Evans on Jan 28, 2013Comments: The decision to break any relationship with the RMHA requires radical transparency and all reasoning behind this decision must be laid bare and be made open to input from families that the decision will affect. All families appreciate the time and effort that the MDHA executive give to the sport and that as volunteers they are sacrificing many hours of their personal time so that others can benefit from their efforts but such unilateral decisions cannot be made when they affect so many other volunteers (bench staff, managers, other team committee members).Flag

Name: Eamon Colvin on Jan 28, 2013Comments: Just ridiculous, I'm a russell boy and River Rats has given me the opportunity to make lasting relationships with kids from metcalfe and greely that otherwise I would not have happened. River Rats has been an amazing part of me life and I can't imagine why it should cease for future players from Russell.Flag

Name: Bob Goodman on Jan 29, 2013Comments: For MDHA to make such a unilateral decision without consultation of the impacted groups just shows how near sighted those at the top of the chain in MDHA are. Only looking out for them, not the good of the kids or showing any respect for the countless hours volunteers have put into the River Rats over the years.Flag
