Like all parents, I am concerned for the safety of my children. In our suburban community of Levittown, NY children are constantly playing outside. I am a parent of 2 year old twins and a 13 thirteen year old. Many of my neighbors also have young children and are constantly yelling at drivers to slow down. I live on Cotton Lane in Levittown and my concern is this street is widely used as a shortcut to avoid traffic lights on Hempstead Turnpike. Upon entering Cotton Lane there is not a stop sign for at least 150 yards. Cars are continuously speeding by without the consciousness to slow down for safety. At the intersection of Cotton Lane and Tanners Lane there is an urgent need for two more stop signs, making this intersection a three-way stop. These stop signs would force drivers to stop and reduce their dangerous driving speeds. As a resident since 2006, I have witnessed many cars parked on the street get hit. Just last night (6/26/13) a speeding car hit a parked car and crashed into the newly placed lamp post in front of my house. As a result, this lamp post is knocked down on the sidewalk. Luckily no one was hurt, but unfortunately no one was held accountable for this accident. These stop signs would save the residents of my community and the town avoidable expenses. Thank you for your support!
