The people of Tallahassee are grateful for the nonstop air service between Tallahassee Regional Airport (TLH) and Washington Reagan (DCA). With the American Airlines - US Airways merger underway, we want to show the new American Airlines how much we appreciate this service. Reasons why the Tallahassee-Washington DC nonstop air service is so important:

-- Nonstop service between Tallahassee and Washington Reagan (DCA) was established in March 2012. It is the first service, ever, to link the Florida state capital to the nation’s capital. As such, it is vital for business, government, and leisure travel. The current service provides significant time savings for passengers versus connecting through another hub to reach Washington DC.

-- The Tallahassee – Washington Reagan (DCA) market has grown substantially since service began. In 2012, prior to nonstop service, there were 24,070 passengers travelling between Tallahassee and Washington Reagan (DCA). This number has nearly doubled to 44,320 passengers in the most recent twelve-month period ending June 2013 – an increase of over 84%!

-- Tallahassee is one the nation’s preeminent centers of higher education. Florida’s capital city has two nationally-renowned state universities, a public community college, and seven private educational institutions and branch campuses. More than 60,000 students attend these institutions, including over 40,000 at Florida State University alone.

-- Tallahassee has a strong economy and the area’s unemployment rate is consistently below the national average. Over 73% of the population has some college education, and almost half have a Bachelor’s degree. Tallahassee’s skilled workforce includes over 31,000 state employees, which mitigate the business cycle fluctuations that trouble other mid-sized cities.

-- Tallahassee is home to Florida State University’s National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, the world's highest powered magnet laboratory and the only one of its kind in the United States. Supported by the National Science Foundation and the State of Florida, the laboratory develops and studies magnetic fields for research in physics, chemistry, biology and bioengineering, and geochemistry. Its facilities attract scientists and researchers from around the world.

-- Within the next couple of years, Florida will likely surpass New York to become the nation’s third most populous state. As such, the Tallahassee – Washington Reagan (DCA) nonstop link connecting the two capitals will become even more important.
