We the undersigned oppose any new legislation in Westchester County that will hinder and infringe on the rights of law abiding citizens to bear arms. In Westchester County there is one of the most thorough background checks of anyone who wants to own a handgun in the Country. This is done by our more than capable and efficient County Police force. It can take up to 6 months and more for someone to be able to receive a permit. You need to have multiple references to speak of your character. You have a criminal background check. With all of this Westchester County still puts administrative restrictions on permits, i.e. target, employment. We hope you do not further punish the law abiding citizens in this County.
We will voice our concerns that you are violating the rights of the legal gun owners of this County, and will knowingly criminalize the same people by asking for bans on weapons and magazine types. We ask that you protect our 2nd amendment rights as our elected representatives. We ask that you do not support legislation on any level, local, State, or Federal, that immediately criminalizes legal firearms owners.
We categorically refute the NY S.A.F.E act that we believe was pushed through illegally and unconstitutionally.
