Patrick Rosshirt | Happy St. Patrick's Day to the vendors of Winnifred Beach.
Pepe Zahl | From 1986 I use the fantastic Winniefred Beach with my children and step-daughters. The vibes were ALWAYS good.!s Portlanders, Kingstonians and tourists mingled, and everybody was happy. While the Northcoast is spoilt, and the vibes there are outlandish, Winniefred is heaven, and shall be it! ppz

Patrick Rosshirt | Dear Carla, Please update the court precedings inregard to the status of Winnifred. Thousands are waiting not in vain for the rights of the people of Portland , Jamaica, and the World to be forever respected and upheld. George Washington, the American revolutionary general lost every battle ,but won the war. Long live the rights of the people of Portland . Justice delayed is justice denied!
Patrick Rosshirt | With Prime Minister Golding in charge of the environment portfolio perhaps the Prime Minister will now weigh in on the side of the people of Portland and protect the rights of all Portlanders in regard to the unrestricted use of Winnifred Beach. Mr Prime Minister this issue has remainded unresolved for far too long. If peace is to be brought to the East end of the island this would be a great fisrt step.

Cassidy Rist | One of the reasons I chose to go to Winnifred beach is because it is truly a PUBLIC beach. I live in the US and would be outraged if the majority of our beautiful places were developed in a way that prevented most americans from going. Jamaica's beaches belong to its people.

Alisson Bittiker | As a tourist mindful of my influence, I am specifically traveling to the Winnifred Beach area for my holiday because it is a publc beach and I plan on supporting the neighboring businesses. At no time do I plan on visiting a private beach during my stay and I would never here or anywhere else for that matter. They reek of racism and classism to be blunt. And I want no part of that.

Polly Thomas | I am the author of tourist guide book, the Rough Guide to Jamaica, and sincerely support the cause of keeping Winnifred accessible to all Jamaicans and visitors, and want it to remain free of the trappings of commercialism that have ruined so many other beautiful places on the island we all love so much.
Polly Rodger Brown | I love Winnifred Beach. Leave it alone. Let it be free.

Radcliffe Brown | We need access to our beaches. This is the most beautiful water in Jamaica and we the citizens need to protec it from government and their Big Money Friends.

Anonymous | I support you in your efforts to keep Winnifred's Beach open to the public. I live in St. Ann where all our beaches have been taken away by UDC or private developers. Save Portland - its beaches and it's mountains.

Patrick Rosshirt | Jamaica represents an example of what is at issue in a post colonial environment. Until local parentis is perserved and advanced post colonial governance will remain elusive and ineffective. Please continue prescriptive access to Winnifred Beach cost free to the local children of East Portland. Don't fence them out. Local control of this community beach has taught Portlanders the meaning of community and in and of itself is an example for all Jamaicans of what is possible when the community works in unity and peace for the welfare and love of the nation's children and their free and unlimited future. God Bless the children of Jamaica!

| 1290 | latoya k. | i for one am shocked that they would even think of closing the beach down, i grow up going to winnifred beach it one the best place in jamaica. i wonder what they would do next charge people to pick mango from them own tree.

Theresa Goodell | Please preserve beautiful Winnifred Beach for public use forever. I have had the pleasure of enjoying this beach (as a tourist) for several years and would hate to see another beautiful Jamaican beach lost to development. From a tourist point of view, there are fewer safe and clean beaches available every year in Jamaica for sunbathing, picnicking, building sand castles, swimming, running, snorkeling, fishing, and enjoying the environment of the beautiful birds & turtles. Most of them are gone now. We do not all stay at all-inclusives and limit ourselves to their "private" facilites. If Jamaica continues this development trend of privatization and prevents us from enjoying its natural beauty, there will be fewer reasons to visit your lovely island. The end result will be that people will move on to visit islands like your neighbor, the Dominican Republic, where the natural beaches are still available to enjoy. I love the Jamaican people and beaches like Winnifred allow me to enjoy them. The idea that I could enjoy a beach in Jamaica filled only with other tourists is the worst possible thing that could happen. PLEASE PRESERVE WINNIFRED as a public beach so we can continue to enjoy it and its people for generations to come.
Anonymous | We need to leave our natural resources for the people. Jamaicans need to have access to the beaches free of cost & hassle as in all other Caribbean islands. When we begin to chase people from the beaches there is no where else for them to go. Let us follow our Caribbean neighbours on this one.
Lorna Leslie | I grew up in Sherwood Forest and spent alot of memorable moments at Winiefred beach and it would be nice for my children and others to experience and have free access as I did growing up.
Robert Coates | One of the nicest beaches in the world; and one of the last remaining in Jamaica which Jamaicans and tourists can enjoy together

Michael De Chellis | As a visitor to your great land, I was truly impressed with the beauty and serenity of Winnifred Beach. I often recall how calm and relaxing my time spent there was and have recommended visits to many friends. Please preserve Winnifred Beach in it's current state as this is what Jamaicans know as their land and what tourists look for when visiting.
Imogen Spencer | This beach is an important public beach, allowing access for all
