We, the undersigned members of the Water’s Edge Community, on behalf of all Community property owners, request that DeKalb County act forthwith to repave the streets in our subdivision that are in a dangerous state of disrepair.

Our community of 1278 households has paid upwards of $65 million in property taxes to the County since the subdivision was established 25 years ago. YET, OTHER THAN PARTIAL WORK DONE ON WATER’S EDGE DRIVE, NOT A SINGLE ROAD IN WATER’S EDGE HAS BEEN REPAVED DURING THIS PERIOD! Consequently, most road surfaces contain potholes and broken pavement, which create dangerous driving conditions and adversely affects property values, which in turn reduces County tax revenues.

We understand the county received additional funding of over $3M from HOST funding and the Georgia Department of Transportation. This constitutes a 62% increase in funds to perform road maintenance this year. When we consider the amount of tax revenue generated from this community and the fact that these roads have been only patched, we feel it is incumbent upon the county to review planned work to incorporate resurfacing of roads with a rating of 20 or higher this year. Further, we would request roads with a condition index of 10 or higher be incorporated in the 2017 work plan.
