Name: Heather Kahler on Jun 3, 2011Comments: Our children's education is the greatest asset this country can invest in. an educated nation is a safer, stronger, more productive nation. Children who learn lessons that people in power do not care about them, or their education, are learning a very dismaying message that leaders do not take care of others, so why should they? Who will they grow up to be when they have experienced the loss of wonderful teachers du to cuts, loss of arts, PE, self worth because they see they are always the first on the chopping block.....why would they grow up to be teachers themselves, or enter some other altruistic profession when our political social climate makes those positions of such little value? Why would an extremely talented individual that IS educated well, want to go into the teaching profession when they are walking into a pit of disrespect, disregard for the profession and the children they are charged to take care of? In spite of all of this, I am changing from a perfectly viable career as an animator, to become an elementary school teacher, back in school, at 39 obtaining my masters degree in education. It is in my heart, and whatever the government decides NOT to give to schools, WI will make up for, one classroom at a time. It takes heart to be a teacher these days. The politics hammer away at the heart and inspiration that current and otherwise future teachers have. It is no way to treat people who have the future in their hands. Both teachers AND children have ALL of our futures in their hands. They deserve respect, they deserve the materials and circumstances that allow them to succeed. They deserve to be cared for and revered, so they will do the same in the future for the next generation, and for the aging population that will be dependent upon them one day, after they have taken away from them when they needed it most.....Flag
